Description
An alternative to the excellent Exmbud (one) -which follows the coast path, This is an inland alternative, a pleasant route without the dramatice views of Exmbud (one) but would form an excellent loop walk from either end. Also at peak times the coast path gets very busy so this would be a nice option. The section along the Littleham Church path is particularly pleasing. The road section along Castle Lane carries only light traffic

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

14 Nov 2023A varied route.
Castle Lane was quiet but is narrow and has no verges in places so I would not walk it with children.
Unsurprisingly, parts of the route were rather muddy when walked in November after heavy rain, but passable in walking boots. The two muddy sections were between the cycle route (old railway) and Littleham and also the Knowle Hill Plantations between Castle Lane and the golf course. Travelling east you could avoid the mud by following Exmbud Three (on the cycle route NCR 2) as far as Castle Lane (SY 04308 82288) and then walk south on Castle Lane and continue south onto the footpath to the golf course to rejoin Exmbud Two or vice versa.

18 Feb 2022Tim's designed an excellent inland Slow Way for getting between Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton.
My photos might look a bit unusual to you.. I started my walk in Budleigh yesterday just as the sun was going down... making this my first #SlowWaysWalkInTheDark. The route is not lit, I just enjoy walking in the night and this route was easy enough with my torch.
I completed the route as part of a circular, combing this route with Exmbud One earlier in the day. This alternative route follows the coast and is a bit further and more hilly. Exmbud Two was easier and more direct.
Like Tim's said in his description, I agree that "the section along the Littleham Church path is particularly pleasing" and in the dark, Knowle Hill Plantations was fun. The woods were full of the screams of birds trying to settle for the night against the backdrop of Storm Eunice on the horizon.
At either end of the walk you'll find plenty of places to eat, sleep or get your feet in the sea.
I think there might be another couple of good route options for Exmbud. One would be longer and make full use of the cycle route that followed the old railway. Another might be very similar to Exmbud Two but be a little more direct through Exmouth. The first two Exmbud routes are great Slow Ways regardless.
I'll be walking or running this route again for sure.
Thank you Tim.
