Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Porcovolente

04 Aug 2022 Summer

Starting from Edenbridge, the first mile of this route is straight along the busy B2026 bordered by residential or commercial properties. There are pavements but not always on both sides so it involves crossing a couple of times.
Once off the road the walking is pleasant though the first right turn is not signposted and is easy to miss. Along field edges with some great views and mostly farmland as far as Crockham Hill where the route crosses the B2026 again. Here there is the chance to get food and drink before heading into countryside again.
I missed the route just after Crockham Hill primary school following the path to Frogham Lane – I retraced my steps and took the correct route but as it turns out either way involves a lot of steps up to the lane. At the end of Frogham Lane the SlowWay route shows along the B2026 again but it needs to be clearer that there is a footpath that runs parallel (despite the warning notice that the path can be bad in wet weather, it must be safer than the road).
On Mariners Hill there are plenty of footpaths to choose from so it is a little difficult to figure the right route (if you want to visit Chartwell it is only a slight diversion from here).
The route now returns to the B2026 – and this stretch is positively dangerous – no pavements, steep banks and a blind curve with traffic that is travelling quite fast and not expecting pedestrians. I would most certainly not walk this part again.
After a bit more woodland walking the next crossing of the B2026 is quite vague on the SlowWays route and I opted for a slight detour to avoid having to walk along the roadside again. Once across the route is fine through woodland and fields until arriving in Westerham where there are places to get food and drink.
