Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

11 Dec 2023December 2023. Direction: Ebbw Vale to Nantyglo.
There are no signs along the way, until you enter Nantyglo and in parts there is no obvious path so you need a map for this one, but it is fairly straight forward. The only difficulty was the part through the golf course - there are plenty of paths for the golfers to follow between holes, but nothing for the walker, so you just need to follow a bearing. A couple of the styles around the golf course are conventional (Photo 1 - I`ve never seen a carpeted style before!), but there are also a couple at the point where you leave the course on to the lane taking you down into Nantyglo, where you have to duck under (Photo 3). If you don`t like the idea of this, there is a detour, a lane to the right as you`re going downhill, which curves round to re-join the end of the footpath. The golf course, by the way, is recognised as the highest in the UK by the Guinness Book Of Records, on account of the 14th tee (Photo 2). The path from Farm Road to take you up into the village centre is quite steep and can be slippery (Photo 4).
