Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

24 Sep 2021I followed this route southbound up to OS maps ref 539369 , 138530 (Holyte Road/Moat Road) as I had accomodation plans elsewhere. Nice route! About half of the route is walking alongside a road - around two miles at each end, although the two miles out of Edenbridge is mostly on a quiet/private road so it is not noticable (in both instances, taking a more off-road route would be a significant detour). The middle four miles is mostly through fields and farms, although it does take you through Jules Wood on a clearly set path.
Three warnings -
- There were sections of mud through the uphill paths in the woods, so be careful if it's recently rained.
- There's a bridge crossing a river at OS reference 544178 , 143180 (Just after the path ends at Ockhams/Clatfield) that has steps up from the riverbank to the neighbouring fields - these steps have heavily worn away, seen in Photo 2. The height is manageable as there is still some definition to the steps (easier if you have trekking poles), but again please be careful if it's raining - it looks like there's a footpath at Christmas Place to Marsh Green Wood that would then connect back onto the Slow Way that would avoid this bank, but I didn't take this detour so can't comment on it.
- Some of the stiles are pretty high up - I'm an average height and I did find some of them to be a little hop up!
All in a lovely walk to take, I didn't see anyone between Jules Wood and Larches Farm, and the level of road walking at either end means it is much less taxing than the 8 mile tag suggests.
