Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

25 Jun 2023The route in Broford Wood, is not that as shown by the rights of way. But follows the main forest road between Hollam farm and the river crossing in the woods. The path at Broford farm is also closer to the farmhouse than the right of way shown on the map.
I have attached a map below of the actual route to be walked at this point.

25 Jun 2023Great walk with lots of strong climbs to do. Some really nice views across the hills here.
A couple of marking issues to be addressed. Watch out for the signposting about 4 miles out, a mile and a half before Bridgetown. You cross the river here and the marked Slow Ways route suggests there’s a trail up the hill to your left. No there isn’t. Keep on the left hand road all the way up the hill until you get to the farm, then go right there. The marked path is seriously wrong here as things stand.
The other, more minor, one is at 2.5 miles in. The route appears to go round a farmyard but in fact goes through it.

25 Jun 2023Hi Richard, could you let me know please. In which direction you were travelling. i.e south from Wheddon Cross to Dulverton or travelling north. I shall look at your findings. Cheers Tim.

25 Jun 2023Thanks for your observations Richard. I hope the above map and explanation help explain the correct way. The route was originally drawn following rights of way on the OS map. However as you point out this is not walkable on the ground at these two places . Cheers Tim

26 Jun 2023Thanks Tim. I guess you worked out we were travelling north!
The piece of map you’ve put in is the one we eventually walked and can verify. However it took about 20 minutes of fruitless hunting around before we realised that was the only possible way. If you have access rights to update the trail route shown in the maps on the app, that will save others the trouble. The real route is easy once you’ve figured out you must follow the route. -

26 Jun 2023Last word should read “road”, not “route”!

22 Jun 2023A delightful route with some steep climbs and amazing views. Bring insect repellent in the summer as there were plenty of biters out there when we walked it in June!.

21 Jun 2023Lovely scenery and views. A lot of horseflies as it was humid, so bring insect repellent! There are some areas where there are loose stones, tree roots and steep paths, so care must be taken.

19 Jun 2023A nice starting point from Dulverton, easy to park and lovely section by the river.
Moderate walking fitness required, as some hills.
Overall simple with nice tracks with nice scenery.

17 Jun 2023A pleasant route, some navigation skills and care required as some signage is missing or hidden. However the route is totally accessible and has delightful views. By going slightly off route at Bridgetown a visit to "The Badgers Holt" would make for a great refreshment break. The walk in and out of Wheddon Cross is shared with Dulwhe2. Plenty of fairly steep hills and some stiles to encounter. Overall though a very nice walk.
