Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

01 Apr 2024A big stretch of open fields with straightforward routes however many of these routes are not available due to the ongoing national grid works that are frequently changing which pathways are open. It sometimes came down to personal judgement whether to risk walking in a direction that we may be told to turn back on. Please see Thom's review for more detail on this problem.
Once those works are completed this year it should be a much more enjoyable journey.

31 Mar 2024The route follows along larger stretches of pavement and power lines, and parts of the larger farm fields can be tricky to cross in wet weather. Please be mindful of recommendations for slight adjustments to the suggested route, as proposed by former reviewer Thom Brisco.

29 Mar 2024Walked in March 2024 as part of a longer trail, this portion of our journey was impacted by field path closures caused by ongoing works to the overhead national grid power lines. Signage indicated that these works would cause closures up until 31.05.25. A 2 km long stretch was closed between Simpsons Maltings and Great Moulton, whilst a 700 m stretch was closed between Wash Lane and Wacton. Nearby roads and lanes offered simple alternatives, without excessive additional mileage.
Setting out from Diss the route is an enjoyable, gentle mixture of field-side footpaths and quiet roads. I have attached (marked in red) one suggested correction to Slow Ways’ suggested route when leaving Diss from Walcot Road.
Approaching the village of Wacton, we encountered one of the most memorable moments of our 90-mile walk, passing through a field shared by six grazing horses. Very interested in us and our backpacks, we enjoyed the attention, but this could be an alarming moment for anyone afraid of horses. The field is located at grid location 52.47639, 1.195450. All Saints Church in Wacton is worthy of a brief detour to view its distinctive round stone tower.
