Earlier reviews pointed out that the section adjacent to the M40 is quite noisy. This is true, but only a short section is alongside the motorway. Overall it's pleasant, but not suitable for anything with wheels.

One feature of this route not mentioned by earlier reviewers is that a significant part of it runs along the northern boundary of the old Upper Heyford air force base. This part of the route is manageable, but has a lot of trees - these are so regularly planted they were probably a security screen in the days when it was in military use - you can get an idea of this from one of the pictures I've posted.

And one oddity: the sofa sculpture made out of bricks at Bicester. See the picture for details.

Walked this route twice once as posted and once tring out a few short cuts. Walked after a lot of rain and the route held up well. One place between Somerton and Deddington was flooded but could make my way around with a little care. The One section I didnt like was walking near the M40, the noise drowned out my auido book :-(. So walking from Bicester to Deddington I suggest the follow detour: half way along the M40 you can turn left on to a footpath, cross stright across the B430 over a stile. cross the field diagonly and enter the Ardley quarry woods near the railway line and walk the SW and NW sides of the woods. The route has more stiles and more steps but less road and noise.
The Somerton Road after Fewcott is not the ideal but no way around that and its not too far.

Lovely walk between Deddington and Ardley. Ardley to Bicester is a bit more functional, Motorway noise, and walking through Bicester, but no way of avoiding that.

We walked this route starting from Bicester, and found it very much a route of two parts. The first half, from Bicester to Ardley, was very straightforward to navigate, but consisted of walking through the housing estates on the outskirts of Bicester, followed by a farm track and footpaths which were rather more pleasant. We made a slight detour for refreshments to The Trigger Pond in Bucknell, which was a delightful village pub. The route then went alongside the Chiltern Mainline railway and right next to the M40 motorway, which was as expected very noisy. I’d give this first half of the route 3 stars.
By contrast I’d give 5 stars to the walk from Ardley to Deddington. The noise from the motorway disappeared, the scenery was beautiful and it was a thoroughly enjoyable walk.

An easy to follow route with not too much on road. What there is appears quiet.
