I walked this from Caterham to Coulsdon on a sunny and dry morning, where it had rained a little in the past week.

Right out of Caterham this route goes up a steep hill, along a fairly busy road. It wasn't hard to cross where needed, and the pavement was wide. At the top, the route then continues along sports fields and a park. There is then a short section of residential roads before ending up at the "Green Lane", footpaths that go past the golf course. which makes you end up at Coulsdon Common at the Fox Pub, where the route briefly joins the LOOP into Happy valley, which was glorious in the sunshine. The route mostly follows the middle of the valley, but at one point soon it goes up steeply towards Ditches Line — a less steep incline route is possible too. Here it follows the Farthing Downs Tree Belt, instead of the top-of-the hill route that the LOOP follows into Coulsdon. After going past Coulsdon South station, the route then finishes as Coulsdon Town along an industrial estate.

This is a great route, although I am going to propose a second variant which follows the LOOP, as it is the nicer one at Farthing Downs.

A good route across Farthing Downs and Happy Valley on easy paths. Can be a bit muddy in places but generally the paths are pretty wide.

A good countryside walk. Fairly steep in places and narrow, rough paths (some shared with horses). Several gates. Kissing gates would probably prevent large pushchairs passing. Last mile into Caterham is steep road. Toilets at Coulsdon (outside Aldi) and in supermarket at Caterham. Also toilets at top of Farthing Down but slightly off route. The Fox Pub on Coulsdon Common.
