10 Feb 2023A very enjoyable route, with great views of the East Devon countryside. The route in and out of Axmouth is along the busy B3261 and A35 roads. However there is a wide pavement all along this section. It is perfectly safe, just noisy. There is a pub in Kilmington, The Old Inn. The rest of the route is on good footpaths, some field crossings and quiet country lanes. There are places for refreshment in both Axminster and Colyton.

16 Jul 2022This route goes through some very nice Devon countryside, almost all of it is in the East Devon AONB. The Colyton end of the route is mostly on footpaths over fields, woodland and farmland. When I walked it, some of these were very overgrown, particularly around Lexhayne Farm. The Axminster half of the route is all on lanes, or alongside roads. The mile and a half into/out of Axminster is dull and noisy but safe. There is a pavement alongside the busy roads, and the worst bit (A35) is short.
Plenty of places to eat and drink in Colyton and Axminster, but nowhere in between.

16 Apr 2022If you check out this route on a map, the first half (starting from Axminster) is nearly all on roads. However, don't let that put you off. Once you've left Axminster and cross the A35, you're on small country lanes. And the sound of traffic - or what there was - is replaced by the sound of running water as you cross a number of small streams.
A small section was pretty boggy, even though it hadn't been particularly wet prior to my walk. That and a number of of factors (stiles and gates, pasture, and the stairs to get over the railway at Seaton Junction) mean that the route isn't suitable for wheels. But otherwise I'd recommend it.
