Description

This is a great way to walk between Colyton and Axminster.

It's almost identical to Colaxm One, but avoids walking down the A44 for a 500 metres by going through a series of green fields.

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

This is a great route. I actually walked it back in February. I've no doubt that in the summer months its a glorious route!

I've nothing to add to Helen's great review.

I 100% recommend it.

12 Feb 2023 Winter

This was a really enjoyable walk through beautiful East Devon countryside. There is a little bit of lane walking, but the route mostly follows public footpaths through fields. I walked it in the direction from Axminster to Colyton. Axminster has plenty of refreshment opportunities. There is a cafe and pubs in Colyton and a pub en route at Kilmington. The route is not suitable for wheeled users, with a number of steps and stiles. It is not too challenging gradient-wise though.

The route starts out from Axminster on pavement beside the B3261, but then crosses over to pick up part of the NCN2 cycle route - a good traffic-free section of path which passes under the A35 (note that very tall people may need to duck slightly!), through fields then along a public byway into Kilmington. From pretty Kilmington the slowway follows very quiet country lanes then public footpaths through farm land to Seaton Junction. There is no longer a station here and only a single track in operation, but the grand old buildings remain together with an impressive pedestrian bridge (stepped access) over the abandoned platforms. The way continues on woodland and field footpaths to Colyton. Although walking in winter, the paths were not boggy or muddy. There was no livestock present in the fields, although it’s possible that there may be at times.
