Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

29 Aug 2024This route worked will and only needs one adjustment. It took us about two and a half hours, but this included a sit down for drink and a short rest half way. Over half is alongside the canal, plus some nice off-road footpaths, which made it very pleasant. There are parts where you can feel a bit isolated, so I wouldn't recommend it for a person to do on their own. Absolutely fine in company (we were two females and it felt perfectly safe together). Due to some of the ups and downs alongside the locks, it would be tricky for wheeled access, plus a radar key would be needed. Surfaces generally OK, particularly as we have walked it in a dry season.
See map photos below for indication of the small change needed (and photo of gate which now blocks former access). Good to meet a local man who remembered the old route of the alleyway!
Also to be aware of: when joining the canal, the Codwol1 route indicates the right hand side of the road, whereas canal access is only from the left hand side, meaning you go directly under the road bridge to start the towpath section. I photo.
