16 Sep 2023I started from White Coppice village with a quiet country lane. There were several cars but the drivers were considerate. There was a very rickety, very hidden stile into a short overgrown footpath which then improved, although there were electric fences on both sides. It was also damp and muddy, but felt safe.
Into the woods of Healey Nab the paths wound around more than they appeared to on the map. The white-on-blue arrows took me in the right general direction, but zigzagged more and were less steep than the marked route. In fact the OS marked paths don't necessarily exist on the ground at all.
Noise from the M61 gradually became more apparent after I reached the top. Don’t expect views from this route over Healey Nab – just enjoy the woods. Heading down through the fields, the obvious path on the ground is where the dotted black path line is on the OS Map, rather than the green dashes. There were good views here over Chorley (and probably well beyond in clearer weather).
There were swans and moorhens on the little reservoirs. After crossing the motorway, I nearly missed the turning past new housing. Then there was a footbridge over the canal and a straightforward plod down to the station.

04 Nov 2022I know this area reasonably well being a local and the footpath inspector! The paths into/out of the woods are quite easy to follow, sometimes muddy. In the woods itself (nab) can be confusing. Either local knowledge / reasonable navigation is needed.
I do like the route / area though and would walk it again.

17 May 2022An up-and-down route over Healey Nab with tremendous views back over Chorley and beyond from the top. Froom Street at the Chorley end was busy with trucks/vans due to the industrial area over the M61 bridge. Many mountain bike trails cross the nab woodland so it can be difficult to navigate through on the designated footpaths. Quiet country lanes take you into the idyllic hamlet of White Coppice.

20 Aug 2021Can get very muddy in parts. Steep hill up to the nab.
