Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

16 Nov 2021Walked out from Buxton; the streets are quite attractive but on the outskirts of the town safety on the road side may be a little questionable. Fortunately, that ends at the fast bend and the reminder has some rewarding views over verdant countryside.

28 Aug 2021Walked from Chapel to Buxton 28/8/21.
Generally easy to follow but some footpaths not waymarked. Steep climbs out of Chapel which might reduce its accessibility for some. Several fields with sheep and bullocks in when I went through - gave them a wide berth and they were fine but I know some people get nervous around livestock, and you'd need to take lots of care if you take a dog (and keep dogs on a lead!!!)
Absolutely stunning views once you get to the top and the Midshires Way portion is gorgeously wild (but very easy to follow). Not too much walking along roads until you get to Buxton outskirts.
I am not sure that the first part from Chapel to Combs is a very good route. I'd suggest walking to Long Lane, along Long Lane until Bank Hall drive, up the drive until you reach the cinder path (runs along by the railway), which will take you directly to Combs and has the benefit of stunning views across the valley and Combs reservoir. The current route does take you across the tip of the reservoir but this path is sometimes hard to follow and is a bit circuitous.

16 Jul 2021Really good walk. We walked from Buxton and the start heads up Long Hill (the clue is in the name!). A very short section is on a grass verge of a road but looks like it is maintained well. Mix of track and field walking. Some sections on approach to Combs not well waymarked but it is pretty straight forward to follow. Plenty of facilities and transport available in Chapel-en-le-Firth.
