Exploring the stunning views along Black Edge Access Land. The access land has good access i.e. I walked from Chapel and was soon passing through a pleasant park before another area of housing then the climb to the inconveniently location station which claims to serve the town. Crossing the minor road we enter Access Land and the climb gets steeper. A wall also keeps company with the path and this marks the access land boundary....

Walk this route

The route climbs out of the town offering views over the attractive rooftops then takes a walled track the first of many on this walk. One side the stone had been chosen with care to offer a flat dressed face to the road while opposite this wall was jagged and random looking like it would so easily topple. I passed alongside Damside Farm then the road that serves the farm. The track meets the road opposite the Devonshire Arms but I took a gate into the churchyard where I found more seating and for hot summer days a tap. The road through Peak Forest is busy but it has a pavement. The path from Paradise Farm drops down to meet a track which is joined by a narrow gate and squeeze stile not the dilapidated bridle gate that is more obvious. A kissing gate leads to a road after which is a quiet urban walk into the town centre and meeting point....

Excellent White Peak walk from Tideswell but Chapel end I think could be improved but needs a walk to confirm. One side the stone had been chosen with care to offer a flat dressed face to the road while opposite this wall was jagged and random looking like it would so easily topple. I admit I missed the invisible plotted approach to Peak Forest because a well used path avoided a slight climb. The road through Peak Forest is busy but it has a pavement for the plotted route and my deviation. I should have mentioned earlier that the Slow Way is also the Peak District Boundary Walk (PDBW) so there is some waymarking which is essential but not always apparent at Middle Barmoor Farm. The path drops down to the busy road which needs a short walk along a narrow verge before crossing and escaping onto a little used path. The road is busy and the path opposite is little used and poor, making another climb....

It's a nice walk with good views either from the top of Eccles pike or while you are contouring round it. Through fields with sheep in and hay meadows. It's a bit overgrown in places towards Chapel....

From Gowhole we walked the footpath closest to the railway to the south-west. From New Mills to Gowhole and between Brierley Green and Chapel-en-le-Frith we encountered no problems....

Leaving Chapel-en-le-Frith it's a gentle climb, one section of road is narrow with steep sides but light passing traffic was considerate. We enter National Trust land where the path is a level shelf on the hillside but take care to bear left on the footpath to follow the three hundred metre contour. A well walked path drops to the road and we use this to cross the busy by-pass arriving at the impressive Bugsworth Basin a complex of canal arms that were once busy with working boats but now offer pleasant moorings for visiting pleasure boats. The short section of road has a narrow pavement except at the bend then it's a flat walk through meadow land before passing under the railway viaduct and entry to Torrs Riverside Park....

Walked from Chapel-en-le-Frith to Edale as part of the May 2022 Swarm. Straightforward way-finding on mostly well-marked paths, some really stunning views, both back towards Chapel-en-le-Frith and beyond as you get to Mag Low, and then over towards Kinder and Vale of Edale as you come down Chapel Gate. Fuel up at the Penny Pot Cafe while you wait for the train at Edale Station....

Walk this route

A really nice walk - it does include steep sections, and paths are occasionally faint or unclear on the ground, but there's no complicated navigation here anyway. Reasons to do this walk: lovely views throughout the middle section of the walk, on a nice day you can see as far as central Manchester....

Out of Chapel the route was broadly easy (though I'd recommend staying on the lane up to Lidgate rather than go over the fields at Hallhill- it's a very quiet road) and the views over Chinley and back towards Kinder are great....

Walked out from Buxton; the streets are quite attractive but on the outskirts of the town safety on the road side may be a little questionable. Fortunately, that ends at the fast bend and the reminder has some rewarding views over verdant countryside....

I'd suggest walking to Long Lane, along Long Lane until Bank Hall drive, up the drive until you reach the cinder path (runs along by the railway), which will take you directly to Combs and has the benefit of stunning views across the valley and Combs reservoir...
