Description
Improved version of Catoxt One, which corrects the routing up/down Oxted Downs, using an obvious signposted path. A slight tweaking here and there elsewhere to ensure accuracy.
Leave Caterham up a hill (steps) to cross the bypass road. It's a speedy busy highway with a central reservation, care and patience required. There follows a series of ups and downs across the grain of the land through peaceful dry valleys, with a steep climb to Woldingham, a pleasant village at the top of a hill, with a large green and benches. There is a railway station at Woldingham at the bottom of the hill.
After Woldingham the route descends on a good path, and then starts a long slow climb up to the top of the North Downs escarpment. Much of this path follows a fence between woodland and an open field; the path is narrow and sometimes a bit tricky underfoot, so take care and watch for hazards.
At the top of the Downs be prepared for a spectacular view, not totally obscured by fencing (there's a chalk quarry on the other side). An information board shows landscape features that can be seen, all the way to the South Downs.
Access to the top of Oxted Downs is by kissing gate into the National Trust managed escarpment. Walk down the steep but obvious path.
The rest is easy walking across fields and the M25 into Oxted.
Mid-way refreshments are available at Woldingham Village Shop, which is only a few metres off route at The Crescent, just north of the Green. Extra shout out to the water fountain and benches on the Green. Good refreshments at Caterham and Oxted.
Access: some very steep hills, some steps, some narrow and steep paths, and some uneven paths. Kissing gates, stiles

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
