Description
Alternative western Bugpen slowways route taking in the very beautiful Caerloggas Downs and connecting Treverbyn and Stenalees. Rocks clayworks (disused - Nr Bugle) unfortunately cannot be accessed for off road walking so the A391 connects Stenalees and Bugle, It is however safely paved. There are some styles to climb and though the path is for the most part high and dry it does have it's waterproof boot moments. this route is shorter than Bugpen2

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

21 Jan 2023I was looking for a route more direct than Bugpen2 and I found it. The Penwithick half has amazing views from Caerloggas Downs and a few styles to climb but all are in good repair. The path is steep and muddy in places and access from Penwithick is via earth steps behind a garage. The Bugle end is direct, safe and reasonably level. I walked this both ways, watch out for the unobtrusive footpath that takes you between Treverbyn and the High path on the Downs, it forks at one point but Treverbyn is down the hill. I enjoyed this walk very much.
