Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

14 Jul 2022 (edited 30 May 2023)Walked from Budleigh to Ottery several times along this route in the past few years. Its is a fantastic route, all off road and following the route of the River Otter. There are three pubs along the way so plenty of places to stop. It takes about 3 hours with no stops. It is incorrect from Tipton to Ottery as the route is on the other side of the river.

20 Feb 2022Perfectly fine route to walk along the otter. The proposed side of the otter from Tipton to Ottery is much less walked and now rather awkward to do so. A much easier route is to use the other side of the river, a minor change and the natural route most people navigating themselves will no doubt end up taking anyway. Otherwise the route is good and very pleasant.

22 Jun 2023Hi T, completely agree with your review. I have as a result of reviews, drawn up an alternative using only the west side of the Otter. if you have walked all of that and are happy to do so, could you submit a review for Budott2 please. Cheers Tim

01 Jan 2022I walked this route some months ago. The route is permanently blocked in the area of grid ref SY092930 due to river erosion. The best of the diversions is long and involve some road walking. Instead it is recommended to change the section of the route from Tipton St John to Ottery St Mary by walking to Tipton Vale and then on public footpaths on the west side of the River Otter.

22 Jun 2023I totally agree Roger, I walked the route entirely on the west side of the river as you recommended passing through Tipton Vale and found no problem. If you have walked all of the west side, as in budott2 would you be able to submit a review for it? It is as you say the better option.

30 May 2023After looking at the proposed route, I now see it is wrong when getting closer to Ottery. The route needs to be on the West side of the river from Tipton. The other side is not possible and you will get chased by an irate landowner if you try!

22 Jun 2023Andy, I did as you suggested and walked the West side and as you identified it is fine there. I have plotted it for Budott2, if you have walked that side all the way, as shown in the route maybe you could add a review. Cheers Tim
