Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

14 Jun 2023This is a lengthy route with a substantial section on pavements at the beginning and end. The section around Cowpen Bewley woodland park is very nice but is the most challenging terrain on the route. You probably can get through the whole thing on a bike, but not wheelchair or pushchair.
The route can be muddy when it is wet.

17 Dec 2022I haven't walked this route in its entirety in one go but the paths exist. The paths in the countryside to the west of Hartlepool are not well walked and are narrow footpaths at best. They're definitely not accessible for pushchairs or wheelchairs. More accessible routes would have to stick to the town roads.
The route across the busy A689 is slightly to the east of that shown on the route, crossing at the traffic lights.
