Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

A good route overall and not a failure, but with two major snags. The plotting at the west end of Brinton Park is quite badly off and directs you away from the correct path at the west end. The plotting in Rifle Range is also awry, but only because the footpath at the east end is overgrown, and because the section between the edge of the woods and the entrance to Devil's Spittleful follows a footpath on the map which does not even closely follow the actual footpaths on the ground. All of these problems are addressed in Bewkid Three and the Rifle Range issues are addressed by Bewkid Two.

I walked from Kidderminster to Bewdley.
A really enjoyable walk. Lovely views across the valley. Devil's Spittleful in the Rifle Range Nature Reserve is particularly stunning.
If you time it right you might see a train on the Severn Valley Railway.
Initially roadway but mostly heathland and sandy paths. Finishing walking along the riverbank.

Near the beginning you have to double back from the exit off the canal as the route goes over a private bridge and housing estate - just take the bridge over the canal by Tesco, turn left along Park Lane until you come to the park on the right and then you're back on the route.
The pathway immediately after entering the Rifle Range Nature Reserve is blocked by large brambles, but there is a paved roadway that you can follow around it. The Bewkid Two route avoids these issues.

Lovely area to walk through the old Rifle Range.

This route commences with a pleasant riverside walk downstream along the River Severn before gently rising up through the heathland of the Devil’s Spittleful, to then drop down into the streets of Kidderminster, with a short stroll along the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal.
