Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

20 May 2024The previous reviewers have described this route quite comprehensively, and I would only add a comment that there are still footpath closures south of Bewdley as work on their flood defences continues.
The current diversion (in May 2024) takes the walker up Acacia Avenue and onto Stourport Road. It’s a well signposted diversion, and doesn’t detract at all from a thoroughly enjoyable walk.

20 Sep 2023Walked in reverse from Kidderminster to Bewdley.
A very pleasant walk between the two towns, mostly keeping to green areas. From the centre of Kidderminster, the route takes us from the town hall, and very shortly passes a large supermarket, where we briefly access the Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal.
We leave at a bridge accessing a residential area; the access is easy to miss, a tarmacced road on the left of the towpath by the buildings. If you miss that, you have to duck an iron bar to get onto the bridge. The bridge has a gate, but it appears never to be locked (crosses fingers!).
Past the houses, we cross the road into Brinton Park (watch the traffic, as the road bends here), following the tarmac path gradually uphill. Past the band-stand and toilets, we exit onto the main road, crossing to a residential road ahead. After a couple of turns, we cross another road and head down another. But at it's end, a kissing gate leads to the best bit!
Beyond, a vast green space opens up. The Rifle Range park is a lovely area. The path starts tarmac, but soon becomes earth. Muddy in places, but it's still a nice wander through meadows and woods. It becomes a track near and past the railway bridges. The track becomes an unpaved road approaching Blackstone Meadow, but it is seldom used by traffic. The crossing can be a bit hairy, though!
At the end, we cross the main road, which is paved, and take the junction towards the river at the roundabout, where the pavement becomes a footpath into trees, and then along the bank of the river Severn. After a pleasant wander along the riverside, we reach the outskirts of Bewdley (there's some flood defence works being built, so there may be the odd diversion). Onto the roads, we then cross the bridge into the nice little town and the end.
A very enjoyable walk, and not too long. Lots of green spaces, although they, along with a few junctions with no ramps of crossings in places, make this route mostly foot-only.

14 Mar 2023We walked this route from Kidderminster to Bewdley. It is a good mix of urban street walking, open heathland and riverside pathway. The street walking is at the Kidderminster end but is broken up by short sections along the canal and through Brinton Park. The next section goes into pleasant heathland through the Rifle Range Nature Reserve and Devil's Spittleful then across the Bewdley Bypass to Blackstone Picnic Area. From here the route leads quickly onto the River Severn pathway and into the centre of Bewdley.
Each end of the route has plenty of shops, cafes and pubs. Kidderminster has rail connections into Birmingham and Worcester and local bus services. Bewdley has bus connections and, depending on the seasonal timetable, the Severn Valley Railway into Kidderminster or Bridgnorth.
A fairly short but pleasant t walk.

12 Mar 2023 (edited 15 Mar 2023)A short, pleasant, safe and varied walk between Kidderminster and Bewdley comprising pavement, towpath, park, countryside track and riverside. Some kissing gates but no stiles. Public transport a bit limited from Bewdley but the route links with the bus station at Kidderminster and the railway station is a short walk from the end. There is an X Factor with the occasional passing steam train on the Severn Valley Railway. Sadly the route does not pass close enough to the Safari Park to hear any exotic animals, although the native birdlife over the nature reserves more than made up for this. There was a gate on the bridge to cross the canal in Kidderminster which worried us that it might be an early bust, but it was unlocked, as it appears to be most of the time. Easy to follow, having ironed out the snags of Bewkid One. Can get quite boggy!.
