02 Jun 2024I walked this route, because I saw it on the map of the "Monster trail", that connects all GB's national parks. My idea is that such a route should be of a certain "quality", in terms of scenery, nature and pleasure.
Berpoo has too opposite halves.
The first half, from Bere Regis till Organford, is of great beauty. It deserves five stars. The first 2km are hilly, have five stiles and a few steps. From there, it is relatively flat and the paths are wide. After East Bloxworth, the crossing of the A35 deserves patience and attention.
The second half, from Organford till Poole, is a tar road, with an short but uncomfortable section along the A35, and after crossing the A35, one walks for miles along a monotonous and noisy road through residential areas till the finish. It's one of those routes where I think "it's better to take the bus".
For the section after crossing the A35 just before Upton till the finish, there is an alternative to be considered: the Poole Harbour Trail; more info: https://ldwa.org.uk/ldp/members/show_path.php?path_name=Poole+Harbour+Trail.
