Description
This is the same as BarBar One, but with improved accuracy, particularly at the Barrowford end where it would have been very difficult to find the initial footpath

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

08 May 2024I walked from Barnoldswick to Barrowford on a pleasant spring day. Early on there was a footpath which had quite a lot of steps.
The bridleway over the moorland was absolutely lovely with great views all around, but it was fairly hard going with a rubble surface and quite a long climb uphill.
There were lots of moorland birds such as skylarks and curlews.
The southern half of the route involved quite a few field crossings. After Greenbank Farm and towards Stansfield Tower they were a bit boggy and were probably quite bad a few weeks earlier. Other fields were lumpy with hardened mud from horses' hoofs, and some of the field paths were not well used and unclear. There were stiles, kissing gates and horses.
The riverside path south of Blacko and Beverley forms part of the Pendle Way and was really lovely with bluebells and wild garlic. The unsigned footpath leaving here, next to a black and white house, by the river, was also nice apart from some aggressive signs saying "vandals and thieves keep out, police are looking".
Just on reaching Barrowford the route went through a community wildlife garden. This was very nice but the southern entrance could be difficult to spot as it is inaccurately plotted by OS, and it looks like someone's garden. It is directly opposite Factory Lane and there is a green footpath sign on a lamppost opposite, but it sometimes gets rotated by trucks turning into Factory Lane.
Both ends of the route have shops, toilets, pubs and cafes but there are no facilities in the middle.
I would have given this route five stars but for the lumpy, potentially boggy field crossings.
