Description

This route is predominantly the same as Aucbri1, omitting the tricky overgrown stretch along the top of the steep slope above the Water of May. I have shown the crossing of the A9 at Auchterarder correctly, through an underpass.

The route is on tarmac all the way from Auchterarder to Green of Invermay, nearly 8 miles. It uses pavements and minor roads, which are relatively quiet with mainly good sightlines and usually a verge beside them.

From Auchterarder High Street the route heads down Ruthven Street. It crosses the A9 using an underpass. Then the route runs parallel to the A9 for a while so is quite noisy. Care must be taken where the route, on the road B8062, runs beneath a railway bridge where sightlines are poor.
A shop, pub and bus stops are available in Dunning.

At Green of Invermay the route enters the grounds of Invermay, through a gateway and past a gate lodge. It looks fairly intimidating, as there is a sign indicating Cctv coverage, however there is another sign saying 'Dog on Lead' so walkers must be expected occasionally.

500m up the Invermay driveway the route takes the track over the westernmost bridge and follows it through woodlands to the road junction at Invermay Cottage, unfortunately the gate here is locked but easily climbed, and there is another sign encouraging dogs on leads, so walkers are obviously expected. From here the route uses 'walker and cycle friendly' minor roads to Garblie Wood. It follows signposted paths and farm tracks to Forgandenny, and onwards to Bridge of Earn. There were fairly muddy in places when I explored them, but it was January

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
