Route description
This route is almost identical to BRESAN 1, which is almost a first class route, but I have clarified the GPX plot in three places where straight lines on the existing plot create possible confusion. Firstly where the Derby canal disappears under the M1 this version uses the shortcut rather than the muddy bridlepath. Secondly where it recrosses Longmoor Lane, the direct work does not work because the steps on the east side are closed and blocked by locked gates, hence the minor detour via Waterside Close which avoids the steps altogether. Thirdly where the Derby canal meets the Erewash canal, it is necessary to use the footbridge at the end of Lock Lane to cross the Erewash canal, and since the Derby canalside path here involves a couple of small steps I have plotted the route along Lock Lane instead.
