Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of West Kilbride’s Slow Ways.

The initial section through Kirktonhall Glen is along tarmac and packed earth paths but is easy underfoot and passes through lovely woodland. The section behind the houses at Seamill is a pleasant, relaxing walk on short grass....

The route then heads a little inland and follows the pavement next to the A78 into Fairlie. Very soon, the route heads away from the main road and follows a wide arc along (mostly tarmac) forest tracks and estate roads through lovely countryside around Hunterston Castle. Eventually the A78 is rejoined, briefly, before the route heads uphill via Drummilling Road, to arrive in West Kilbride....

The route started from West Kilbride (which looked an interesting town) by going through the West Kilbride Glen, which was rather nice, and was being used by people wheeling baby buggies. After crossing the main road, the coastal route was a grassy path with views across to Arran, Goat Fell and Ailsa Craig....

Walk this routeThere was a concrete path along the edge of the beach, and although part of it was temporarily closed for repairs, it was easy to walk around that part on the beach itself. I feel that this has the potential to be a good route if this track recovers. I’m sure there is a good path from Fairlie Moor Road across a field or two to a gate into the woods surrounding Glen Burn and Linnford Waterfall, as I have found walk reports for here including this one https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=103679. One in the wood, the path was very nice and easy to follow, and brought me out to Biglies Farm....

Walk this routeThe section from Fairlie to the roundabout at Poteath OS Grid Ref: NS 20163 52104 is part of the Ayrshire Coastal Path and has a good tarmacked footpath, occasionally moving away slightly from the road....

I walked with a small group from Ardrossan South Beach station to West Kilbride station. The route follows the Ayrshire Coastal Path but this isn't well signposted at all times. However the route is fairly easy to follow by following the coast line....
