Help connect Thurso

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Thurso’s Slow Ways.

En route to Orkney, the stroll from Thurso to the ferry terminal at Scrabster is easy and good to stretch the limbs if you've taken the long train ride up from Inverness. Easy to follow, good views and a range of proper dock aromas as you approach....

As good as you'll get for the short walk between the Thurso town and the modern port at Scrabster. Enjoyed it. Once out of town most is on easy, paved, off-road paths along the low cliff above the beach, with views north to Orkney and east to Dunnet Head, followed by a gentle descent into the port along the pavement of its utilitarian access road, with the lively business of shipping fish, timber and oil around the area clear to see below....
