After heavy rain it may be impossible to cross the final river to the bothy and therefore it is essential that you carry a tent. Into Glen Feshie there is a short section of single track road then you cross over the river back onto paths. The river here has eroded the path in places so there are a few points where you have to scramble up and down some steep banks and cross eroded bouldery streams at the bottoms (I've done this most recently in Spring 2023 and can confirm it is still the same). The alternative is to stay on the single track road on the West side of the river which will take you all the way to Glenfeshie Lodge, but then you then have to cross a ford as there is no bridge. In contrast in very dry weather you may be able to just cross directly opposite the bothy....

While this is a very beautiful route, and the Tarf Hotel bothy provides a wonderful shelter in the remote southern Cairngorms, this route should not be undertaken without significant preparations and hillwalking skills....

A section of this route will need revision due to its proximity to sensitive areas for wildlife, and this part of the route should not be walked during the bird nesting season (April - October).
