Lovely walk through the countryside but take care crossing a very busy A937 just outside Laurencekirk. No places to stop for food along the way (a small shop does sell sandwiches at Hillside) so take a packed lunch!...

The walk out of Montrose is through residential and paths through parks but quite dull into Hillside along the A937...

I walked this way in May 2022. At grid ref. NO 6781 6047 the route is impassable. It’s supposed to go across a bridge but the way is blocked by metal barriers. I carried on along the field margin, negotiating a tricky ditch crossing) to emerge (backwards through a hole in a hedge) on to the lane at. NO 6840 6061 and was able to rejoin the route Altogether, not ideal, particularly for anyone with mobility problems....
