Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Eccles’s Slow Ways.

Walked from Stretford to Eccles. Leaving Stretford you come onto the Stretford Arndale/Mall and it is mostly road and then through Salford Quays, plenty of places to eat and rest. Through the lovely and hidden Victoria Park. Across the Bridge at Salford. Through Trafford Industrial Park. Past the War Museum. Onto Europa Way,then onto John Gilbert Way. Eventually ending up at the train station in Eccles. You could easily access this via wheelchair or Pram but the industrial estate is a bit boring with many heavy goods vehicles zooming within feet of you. For me it is a 3 mainly due to the lack of off road walking....

On review I would say this is an easy, enjoyable walk. As it’s starts from one high street to another, transport links are highly accessible. The path is a mix on estate streets and public footpaths with a large section being a newly layed path through a park. Due to the rough surfaces on the footpaths I wouldn’t say it is suitable for wheelchair access. There is a section where we had to go off course as we didn’t want to cross the busy road and there was an underpass only 30m down the road. We then presumed to the route on the other side of the road. I would recommend this walk, it’s easy to follow and appears to be safe:...

The route is a quick direct route from Swinton to Eccles. When the route gets you to the East Lancs road A580 a better safer way would be to go under the underpass, which is well lit. The route has street lamps on in the non built up areas and seems reasonably safe. The path in the non urbanised areas is very good. There are no access issues and I would use this route again...

The pavements have ramps, and, whilst there is no formal crossing of the sometimes busy Langworthy Road, again there are ramps and, opposite, a break in the pavement for wheelchairs to access Lower Seedley Road. At the end, we use the crossing over the A6, before heading to the end at Salford Crescent station....

Once at the roundabouts, the pavements do not follow the route precisely, and once we finally get to the A6, the route makes no sense; there's a simple road crossing that seems to be ignored!...

The first part, as far as Buile Hill Park, is a bit dismal on the main roads and it may be possible to cut through the hospital and residential streets to avoid this....

Slow Ways Cristie added Eccsal two, a new walk from Eccles to Salford
Walk this routeWalked this route from Stretford to Eccles and whilst it is flat, fairly direct and takes in Salford Quays with all of the attractions there, some inaccuracies on the route and the dull slog through industrial parks and big roads make this three stars in my view. Once you rejoin the route on John Gilbert Way, almost immediately there is another error as you cannot take a left where indicated on the route....
