Help connect Alcester
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Alcester’s Slow Ways.

I started from Alcester with lovely black and white buildings cobbled street to follow a good route easy to follow with nice views and a lovely pub The Fish in Wixford half way for refreshments. There are a lot of stiles to negotiate so not for everyone. Would definitely recommend this enjoyable walk....

A great Slow Ways Route which i started from Henley in Arden following the Heart of England Way through lovely woods including Banhams Wood. Easy to follow with nice views over the Warwickshire countryside. Recommend The Holy Bush Pub in Alcester for refreshments....

A really good route, which practically follows the river Arrow throughout. Leaving here the route is very pretty as it follows the river towards Spernal. After crossing the road, the route follows the river through Alcester, next to the skate park and then into the old market town centre....

A good Slow Ways route which i started from Redditch Railway station walking through the Bus station rather than going on the plotted way through the car park stairs coming out of Redditch into Arrow Park where i followed the No 5 cycle way more direct out into Studley where the you leave urban and countryside begins. I stopped off at Coughton Court NT which you go through there parkland for a quick drink before caring into Alcester the finish and The Holly Bush pub for a good beer. A enjoyable walk....

Followed this delightful route from Alcester to Bidford on Avon on a dry, warm day....

I did Alcester to Redditch, it is a bit tricky finding the path from that way and there is a small part of the monarchs way that is overgrown not far out of the town, but otherwise lovely, if you walk it on a very hot day like me, stock up on water and suncream as there is not much shelter or any stops between Alcester and redditch to pick anything up, the x19 between Alcester and redditch runs hourly whichever way you do...

I completed this walk today traveling southwest from Henley in Arden....
Steve Litchfield
A few stiles and start of April was a bit muddy in places. Some beautiful stretches and even through Knighton village is very quiet. 2 fairly busy roads to cross...

Straight forward, and at under 5 miles a relatively short route....

The route then leaves the wood via a low stile (photo 4). Once you get to Exhall, the route goes along the road (photo 5) for a while before it takes a left turn along an unsealed road. As mentioned in Timbo44's 2nd point in his review, the route then takes a right turn across a field to the base of Grove Hill. After Binton, the route takes you alongside a stud farm and then through some grazed fields with livestock (photo 13), before eventually taking you through hedge tunnels (photo 14) towards Bordon Hill. After crossing Shottery Field, the route then takes you through a series of alleyways (photo 15) which eventually brings you out by Stratford railway station....

We caught the X19 bus took me from by McDonalds in the centre of Stratford upon Avon to Alcester before walking the route back to Stratford. Alcester and Stratford upon Avon have a wide range of refreshment opportunities before and after the walk to supplement any walkers may choose to take with them....

When approaching the very end of the path along the edge of Oversley Wood, the path does enter the wood but is easy to miss. If you find yourself at the edge of an open field, just take a sharp left along the field edge for 100 yards and this takes you back to the main route. Between Exhall and Little Britain, the route takes a sharp left along a stony farm track and then a 90 degree right across a field. There's a Permissive Access path on the left that takes you back to the main route before entering the woods....
Timbo44
The walk is from St Nicholas in Alcester to St John’s in Henley in Arden. One picture shows the wonderful Banhams Wood, another the general view over the Warwickshire countryside....
Robin Rumbles
You follow the River Arrow from the Arrow Valley Lakes as it meanders through fields, meadows and reserves before it deposits you pleasantly in Alcester, a lovely little town where there are a few pubs, shops and cafes to refuel and rest up....
