26 Dec 2022Mainly a pleasant rural walk through fields and lanes. Starts off along a busy main road for the first 10 minutes and finishes walking along suburban streets. The section from Storeton up to the B5151 (Mount Road) seemed unnecessarily complicated - easier to walk up Redhill Road ( a quiet lane much used by local walkers and away from the noise of the motorway). The hamlet of Storeton is nice with some attractive sandstone buildings. Dog friendly (no difficult stiles) but not for pushchairs.

05 Dec 2022After a tedious 1 mile start along the pavement of the traffic-heavy A551 from Woodchurch, it was a relief to reach the lanes and fields across to Storeton. There was a level crossing, with kissing gates, and there were several delightful clapping gates/stiles of a design that seems unique to the Wirral. They were easy for my friend’s dog, but looked challenging for anyone using wheels.
The section from a narrow footbridge to the motorway bridge was a fenced in path between fields, which was very muddy. It appears that people sometimes walk along the field edges to avoid this.
Storeton Village had a pretty old school house, but we were soon heading through a field towards the M53. There were cows in here, which was the only part of the route we found tricky, with my friend’s Staffy. Soon we were heading up through another couple of fields and out onto Red Hill Road, an uphill road walk with no pavement, but quiet.
At the top, crossing the fairly busy Mount Road B5151 was a bit tricky from this direction, with poorish visibility to the left, but not too bad. We passed the pargetted “Little House” (a rare style outside Eastern England, I think) and some other nice houses opposite Brackenwood Golf Course, before a pretty much direct route along pleasant suburban housing streets to reach Bebington Station.
Lots to like about this route, but not the mile of main road, the longer than necessary proximity of the M53, and a lot of mud.

23 Jun 2021Walked Bebington-Woodchurch. Urban section through Bebington looks confusing on the map, but on the ground is sensible and makes a lot of sense. Pavements are even with crossings and ramps, but there are sections on unpaved roads and footpaths that exclude cyclists and wheelchairs. That being said, it is a pleasurant urban and rural walk through a pretty part of the Wirral.
