Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

30 Apr 2023Walked Woking to Ripley. Good route with little road walking once out of Woking. Spring day, skylarks, kestrels, woodpeckers….
Previous reviewers mention a short length of lane walking at Pyrford, this was no problem, good visibility and low traffic with reasonably considerate drivers.
My main grumble is the road crossing of the B382 Old Woking Road, on a big bend with reduced visibility - not mentioned by the previous reviewers, I think this may be because visibility is better coming from Ripley direction. This one needs care.
There were signs warning about cattle, but all livestock was behind protective fences so no sweat!
Otherwise plenty of lovely sylvan paths, a bit of golf, National Trust groomed lock on the River Wey.
Stiles, rutty paths, some mud. Would do this one again for sure!.

20 Apr 2023I started from Ripley (having walked from Horsley). This is a pleasant country walk crossing the Wey Navigation, farm land, a golf course and alongside the Hoe Stream to Woking Park. There is a section of fairly quiet road (210 metres at Warren Lane, Pyrford) which is unavoidable. If you follow the Hoe Stream through Old Woking cricket ground there are two stiles to climb, but you can cross the stream to join White Rose Lane earlier. There are shops, cafes and toilets in Victoria Place, Woking - use the subway at the station. There are shops in Ripley village and toilets on Ripley Green.

12 Apr 2023This route allows for amazing views, providing a range from the smooth green hills of the golf course to the more rural countryside. It isn't too long either of a walk, making it fun for varied groups. However, there are quite a few styles and an overall rough terrain, making it less accessible to those with disabilities. In addition, some roads must be crossed. Fundamentally, I very much enjoyed this walk and all of its features. Make sure to wear boots!.

20 Apr 2023Stiles near Woking Park to cross cricket ground (as your photo) - can be avoided by taking footpath across Hoe Stream to White Rose Lane. 210 metres of road walk (Warren Lane, Pyrford) cannot be avoided.
