Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

18 Aug 2022Went on this walk with my 6 year old and 3 year old in a basic buggy. It was manageable and crosses fruit farms and woodland. It can be a bit bumpy in places with roots and uneven ground. The trainline bridge was just about manageable by carrying the buggy over although my 3 year old got out so I could carry it over. There is a little park just after the railway bridge (if you are doing Crow to Wokingham) which broke up the journey a little with some entertainment for my kids. You also get a good view of the trains from the steps of the railway bridge. A nice way to get to Wokingham mainly avoiding roads.

14 May 2022Wokingham to Crowthorne (Wokcro 1) review.
A straightforward pleasant walk past farms and through woodland.
The route starts at Wokingham Station. At the point it turns right at the library: there are amenities straight ahead at the town centre. There is a pedestrian bridge over the railway (Photo 1).
The footpath south crosses a private road at Ludgrove School. Locals told me the road east may be used out of term time for a detour to The White Horse pub on the Easthampton Road.
The route continues by a pick-your-own farm, and then through a large farm growing soft fruit for supermarkets (Photo 2).
From there the path enters woodland and follows a wide byway into Crowthorne. The surface was dry on my walk, but can probably get quite muddy. I did notice exposed roots which could be a trip hazard (Photo 3).
There is some street walking into the centre of Crowthorne, which has plenty of amenities.

18 Sep 2021Walkers are lucky to have this route available because there are many potential reasons why access could be restricted. One is Ludgrove school which seems circumspect about too many joggers and walkers close to their boarding school. Another one is a farm with polytunnels which allows the public to go through the middle of their farm. They shouldn't enter any of the side farm roads though.
The route takes advantage of a long direct footpath, mostly through a forest and is easy to navigate. The only potentially dangerous spot is where it crosses Nine Mile Ride close to a roundabout. Visibility is not ideal there, no pedestrian crossing around and the traffic can be heavy. Even though the whole route is mostly flat there are two flights of stairs above a railway line to climb and go down on.

25 Apr 2021A really lovely walk, one of our favourites! It can be a bit muddy at times but the paths are in a pretty good state. There are a few gates to cross and a footbridge over the railway but it is manageable with a pram/bike.
