Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

15 May 2022Wokingham to Bracknell (Wokbra 1) review.
Note: I walked the route Bracknell to Wokingham.
The route begins at Bracknell Station. There are plenty of amenities at the shopping precinct north along Station Road.
The Slow Way itself heads south and then west through a business park; most of which is Waitrose head office. There is then a wooded path (Photo 1) to Peacock Lane.
Peacock Lane is a busy road that leads most of the way towards Wokingham. The first stretch was okay, with a footpath running parallel. The road passes the Peacock Farm pub (Photo 2).
Sadly, walking is thereafter reduced to a grassy verge (Photo 3). I walked the route at 4pm Friday, so I can only hope the road is quieter at other times!
Once on Waterloo Road, it was considerably quieter; although one still had to be vigilant of traffic. There is a new road layout and the Waterloo railway crossing closed (as of May 2022). Take the new road bridge and then the footpath on the left, to reach the far side of the crossing.
It is street walking to the end of the route at Wokingham Station. The route passes close to the town centre amenities (turn right at the library).
Unfortunately, I found little to enjoy about this route.

09 Jun 2021From Bracknell the walk is a fairly mundane walk along pavements through industrial estates of West Bracknell. After that, going out of town, it is along busy narrow country roads with no pavement or street lights. Not a suitable route for walking.

03 May 2021Starting in Bracknell, this route takes fairly quiet, safe paths on smooth surfaces. The weak point is when walkers approach Wokingham esp. the section between Oakwood Climbing Center and the railway crossing. Even though current roadworks make it impassable for any traffic including walkers, I know from experience that cars are driving pretty fast along this stretch of the road. It has practically no verge and walkers have nowhere to move to avoid emerging cars. I wouldn't want to take this route again. When I was walking back, I took London road from Wokingham and then turned right at the Coppid Beach hotel down to Bracknell. Even though this northern detour goes along busy roads, there are pavements along the whole way so it's at least safe.
