Description
This route avoids road walking as much as possible (though some is unavoidable). You leave Witham via Little Braxted, passing rivers and large fishing reservoirs. A beautiful meadow-like field beside West Hall Wood leads you to Tiptree Road. A little bit of road walking is required here, though drivers are respectable and there are grassy ledges to walk on, and a few good rest stops on the way. Turning into Grange House Farm for the final stretch, the public footpaths are slightly thin and poorly maintained but manageable, and wortwhile for a tiny waterfall over a fallen tree. In Tiptree, you could turn right at Gladstone Road and head to the Tea Rooms and jam museum in lieu of the centre - where they are welcoming to walkers and offer hot meals, cakes and drinks

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

24 Aug 2024This route from Tiptree to Witham is a pleasure to walk.
It's only a small section of around 7miles but the views from the fields are beautiful.
A lovely little section near the end near The River Blackwater.
Full 5 rating as all paths clear and clearly marked.
Witham is a great little town with lots of amenities. If you are travelling onward there s also a train station.

15 Jan 2023There is some road walking required here (about 30 minutes) in the second half of the walk - but varied scenery on the rest of the route makes it worthwhile.
