Help connect Tiptree
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Tiptree’s Slow Ways.

A lovely little section near the end near The River Blackwater....
Jenn Phillips
Enjoyed this section of the walk here especially the little duck pond! Lots of field walking but great to see the river Blackwater...
Jimmy Dimi
Nice scenery out of the town and good paths along the way no issues getting through the fields or the woods a nice walk today...
Jimmy Dimi
This route from Colchester to Tiptree is straight forward, easy to follow and takes you through changing landscapes....
Jenn Phillips
It's easily accessible and quite picturesque and easy to follow route into Witham some lovely fields too quite enjoyable and easy going...
Michael Morgan
Nice route and some nice green woodland and fields once you get out of Colchester the route was easy to follow and some nice points of interest. Pretty flat going and the paths were easy enough to follow...
Michael Morgan
At Braintree garden centre the footpath and parallel Long Green road is closed due to a housing development. The route through and around the quarry is quite torturous, not clear or pretty and in some parts very overgrown...
Clive
Suggest ignoring this and taking the westbound public footpath then the quiet Stockhouse Road and Haynes Green Road and rejoining the route on the southbound public footpath across the fields to Grove Road, Tiptree. At Grove Road, the route alignment of the SlowWays map is unhelpful and seems to propose an unnecessary road route. Follow this into New Road and arrive at the route end on Church Road, Tiptree....

It’s a mixture of pavement walking, footpaths over fields and through woodland, a short traipse across a golf course, private tracks and a small amount of road walking on quiet lanes. I’ve marked it down for some loose route alignment in the mapping (easily mitigated by map use) and for the section of pavement through Maldon which runs alongside a busy road and is rather tedious (I’m perhaps being unfair here as there’s not currently a good alternative - but it’s an aspiration for future improvement). A short stretch of pavement through Tilbury down Church Road, Station Road and Hall Road quickly gets you to the edge of town (there’s a slight shortcut if you take Surrey Land off Station Road)....

Also the footpath South from East Street in Coggeshall is extremely muddy because it's always in use by the horse paddocks....
David
This route takes in lots of very nice local routes. There is a nice mixture of footpaths, quiet lanes and good views. Havin finally completed the last section between Kelvedon Railway station and Tiptree, I can happily recommend this route....
David
We've heard the crossing of the A120 is unsafe on this route. Bratip two is being created. Bracog two shows a safe crossing of the A120....
Slow Ways Cristie
Only walked from Coggeshall to Kelvedon. This section is very picturesque. Easy walking....
iU3A
There is some road walking required here (about 30 minutes) in the second half of the walk - but varied scenery on the rest of the route makes it worthwhile....
Michael
Advise against this route - there is far too much unsafe road walking...
