Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

18 Jun 2024This route has been amended since my previous review; much of it is away from the busy and fast road. The new route uses a much quieter country road which has no pavement but is quiet enough to walk along safely. The Winchburgh end of the route makes use of the Union Canal towpath which is very pleasant.

01 Mar 2023Review of Winkir one (Winchburgh to Kirkliston)
I walked this route (starting in Kirkliston) in March 2023. It is straightforward, easy to follow and surprisingly scenic, given the close proximity of several motorways. The route leaves Kirkliston along the relatively busy B9080. The verge is quite narrow in places (as a previous reviewer has pointed out) but as a walker I found it adequate. This would not be the case for some wheeled travellers. The section along the B9080 is quite short however, and thereafter the route follows much quieter, country roads. The final section is along the towpath of the Union Canal. Overall a pleasant, easy to follow route.

14 Feb 2022The path is next to a 60mph road. The path is in poor condition, narrow for most of the distance between Kirkliston and Winchburgh, and overgrown and muddy in places. In heavy rain conditions the path can flood.
