Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

16 Dec 2021At time of writing (15 Dec 2021), some of this route is inaccessible because the Poynton Relief Road construction has closed the relevant Footpaths. Apart from that, this is a good route, with plenty of easily-navigated footpath, not much road, and some good views. Note: unless weather is exceptionally dry, there's a lot of mud - waterproof boots are essential.
I walked this from Wilmslow to Poynton. Comments in order West to East.
1. Suggested minor route change: At gridref 852810, go North down Wilmslow Park Road for ~250m until you meet the bridge, then turn E before the bridge and follow the footpath along the S side of the river. It's a well-used strolling route. Follow this E for about 700m Vardon Bridge, when you rejoin the route (ie cross the river and then follow the path E along the N side of the river.
2. Much of the route along the river is very muddy (see photos).
3. There's a great little Budgens (expensive corner store) on the A5102 at gridref 893828.
4. Currently (mid Dec) the bit between gridref 899827 and Lostockhall Farm is closed (see intro above). The only re-route I can suggest is to stay on the road: at the roundabout (gridref 896832) follow the A5149 NE towards Poynton, and just stay on it all the way past the big junction with the A555 (gridref 901833) and Poyton Station into Poynton. (In reverse, the first 2Km or so of the route needs changing, to route past the station and the big A555 junction to gridref 896832.) I cannot find out from Grahams (https://www.graham.co.uk/poynton-relief-road)m when the relevant footpaths on the Slowways orignal route might be reinstated - I assume it'll be some time in 2022.
