Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

09 Oct 2023I walked this from Bishop Auckland to Willington. Once you leave the town and cross the Newton Cap Viaduct you are on the Bishop Auckland to Brandon Railway Path. Signs clearly say this is a shared path but there is plenty of room for cyclists to pass. It is easy walking and would be suitable for wheelers I would think.

29 Nov 2021Efficient, pleasant and well maintained /waymarked route for walking and cycling (part of national cycle network). To note:
- Newton Cap viaduct footpath is narrow and exposed (but with good views!). Cyclists should dismount.
- One short but steep up/down section requires care just S of Sunnybrow (Helmington Beck). Watch out for descending cyclists - the path can be slippy here and visibility around the corner is poor.
