Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

12 Jun 2022 (edited 05 Jul 2022)Whitchurch to Kingsclere (Whikin 1) review.
An excellent walk across a SE stretch of the North Wessex Downs in Hampshire. Note: I walked from Kingsclere to Whitchurch.
The route starts in the centre of Kingsclere; near pubs, convenience stores and a café. A lane and footpaths lead SW up onto the downs (Photos 1 & 2).
There’s a rather steep ascent up an escarpment (Photo 3) to join the Wayfarer’s Walk; heading west with great views of the surrounding countryside.
The route leaves the Wayfarer’s Walk along a footpath south. However, it’s only a short detour further on to find a famous literary location: Watership Down (Photo 4). My main reason for reviewing this route!
The footpath south becomes an attractive grassy bridleway (Photo 5). This ends at a stretch of quiet road with a grass verge (Photo 6). The route continues south along a farm lane and then a narrow footpath (Photo 7).
The walk turns west along a wide byway. Lanes, and finally a footpath, lead SW into the centre of Whitchurch.
I greatly enjoyed this Slow Way. There’s a lack of break points, so bring enough food and water with you. I noticed the route passes the Portway Roman Road (SU501544). This could make an alternative route towards Whitchurch.
