Survey Photos
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. 29 May 2022 (edited 30 May 2022)As the previous reviewers have said, the one big problem with this route is the dangerous A52 crossing on the canal route - this is a busy dual carriageway and to cross it you have to walk over the barriers on the central reservation. There is a pelican crossing across the A52 further north leading to Bassingfield Lane, and it would not be difficult to change this route to use it at the cost of an extra two to three hundred yards (indeed this has been done in route WESCOT three, which is safer). If this is fixed this could be a four to five star route. There are minor accessibility issues with the path from the canal to Cotgrave, which crosses fields and is a little dependent on the state of the crops, but this path is well used and easy to follow.

26 Jan 2022Nice start/finish at the War Memorial Bench at Cotgrave.
Enjoyable walking beside the canal.
Concerns about crossing the Lings Bar by pass at
SK 60709 36703.

26 Jan 2022Most is good but.............not a safe crossing of the busy main road at Gamston. Great shame that no provison was made here as the canal is a very good walk. From Cotgrave steps up to the verge then nothing only a road crash barrier. Duel carriage way with two more barriers on the central reservation. Clearly there is demand for a safe crossing here with evidence that lots of folk take the risk, as I did but no way can I recommend that you follow in my footsteps.
