17 Jun 2022The third part of a three route circular walk from West Bridgford via Nottingham, which I did as a fitness test while recovering from a Covid infection. No problems with accessibility apart from the steps either side of the footbridge over the railway at the bottom of Douglas Avenue, which have no wheelchair friendly alternative though they do have grooves for wheeling bikes. The other thing that drags my rating down is the section along Daleside Road, a busy main road - this does have a good wide pavement/cycle track but it is no fun to walk. If I were designing an alternative, I would consider a longer route through either Colwick Woods or Colwick Country Park, but sadly the connection between the Sneinton Greenway and the country park are not pleasant either. If we ever get the promised footbridge over the Trent near the country park a much better route will be possible.
One other minor concern is that it would be nice to improve the GPX file to clarify the route across the junction where Daleside Road meets Meadow Lane - there are plenty of pelican crossings but the straight line route is not possible.

21 Feb 2022 (edited 22 Feb 2022)I walked this route from West Bridgford on a breezy February day after several wet days. The section to Ladybay Bridge was pleasant walking in the park and on good pavements beside quiet roads. Approaching the bridge, crossing over the bridge and around the Meadow Lane roundabout was busy and noisy with traffic. The Sneinton Greenway Section was pleasant, but the next bit alongside Daleside road was noisy with traffic, although there was a good pavement. Approaching Colwick Village along Vale Road was more pleasant. The steep steps on the railway bridge to reach Whimsey Park woods would be a barrier to some users, as would the pinch barriers at either end of the following woodland section. The entry to Carlton/ Netherfield was on quiet residential roads. The route is fairly level throughout, and the surface was firm and dry apart from the woodland section at the Carlton end. I think a quieter and more interesting route, avoiding Daleside Road, would be the path through Colwick Woods from Colwick Road, which forms parts of Notcar1 and Notcar2; however, this has a lot of steps, muddy surfaces and is much more hilly.

10 May 2021Not wheelchaire friendly due to steps up onto a bridge over the railway. I did the route in reverse. The Carlton end starts right on the border with Netherfield. It is closer to the amenities of Netherfield than it is Carlton. Short walk along a quite residential road soon leads to a lovely trail with the train line on one side and woods on the other. Comes out in another housing estate which then leads to a busy main road which you are on for about a mile. Not the most pleasant section. It may be possible to cross over and walk through the housing estate and country park on the opposite of the main road but I didn't check it out as showers were imminent. After the main road it is on to another pleasant trail. Then a busy roundabout and noisy bridge over the river. Then a short distance along a residential road and straight into West Bridge Park where I finished. Just over 4 miles. I then turned round and did the route in reverse. No mud, mostly firm trails, gravel or tarmac. Trails slightly isolated on a weekday afternoon but I felt pretty safe.
