Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

19 Aug 2023I went to Wellington to check out the beginning of this route, as I'm fairly certain you can't cross the M5 on foot where the route takes you.
However, there were problems before I got that far. Large parts of Jurston Lane are not now accessible as it's a construction site. When the houses are built I'm sure there will be a way through, but right now it's fenced off, and looks like it will be for months, if not years.
The next problem was crossing the A38. From Wellington I found it a dicey crossing as you come out on a bend and have poor visibility. The other direction is fine, as you can see much more of the road. After that I headed down the restricted byway towards the M5 but I didn't make it that far. The route was actually a stream, very overgrown and in places thick mud. I know there isn't a bridge across the M5 on the byway, and I'm 90% sure there isn't an underpass. I've also looked for the end of the byway on Gerbestone lane, and it's thick hedgerow, with no way through. So I gave up.
For this route I think there are probably 2 options for crossing the M5. One is using junction 26, but there are no paths and I don't fancy it. The second option would be to use Ford Street, which would mean walking along a road with no paths, and only some verges. I don't like either option, but I think Ford Street isn't as busy as Junction 26.
