Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

25 Jan 2022I walked this route from Wednesbury, the first section is slightly questionable as it goes via side streets with a lot of repair garages and tyre centres. My concern is that mechanics manoeuvring vehicles, and drivers parking lorries in a street where they don't necessarily expect a pedestrian to be walking along is less safe than walking the pavement of an admittedly busier main road, there may be an alternative. That's only the very first kilometre, once you join the main road (briefly) cross the Tame Valley Canal, you turn right into a residential area. A series of footpaths lead you eventually to the Metro Station at Black Lake. From there, that's the path you take. It occasionally swaps sides but it's traffic free and the only transport passing you are the trams which run in either direction about every 10 minutes. The route runs as far as West Bromwich Central where the road level is only slightly higher than the Metro line. Apart from the horrid start, from Black Lake this is a superb slow way with lots of the hallmarks. Direct, safe, easy to follow and with lots of links to transport.
