Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

25 Mar 2024Good route, probably best used if you want to walk directly between Sutton and Croydon, where you can jump between 2 Slow Ways routes and skip the spur along Manor Road to Wallington station.
If you want to go to/from Wallington station then imo you are better off choosing a different route that avoids Manor Road.
Much of the route is through park and along footpath, very pleasant. There’s some main road at Croydon, and Manor Road at Wallington is also busy, but there are other route options to avoid this section.
There are a few steps in the churchyard by Croydon Minster. The route passes tram stops before reaching East Croydon station.

16 Mar 2024Pleasant route through Beddington Park and following the Wandle Trail. Last 2 kilometres on pavements alongside fairly busy roads. Majority of route is lit at night. Toilets at Waddon Ponds. Food outlets and supermarkets in Church Street, Croydon.
Use this route from Wallington Green as continuation from Sutton to Croydon (SutWal three).

03 Mar 2024I walked this on a sunny, and slightly cloudy, afternoon, from Wallington to Croydon. It had rained a lot in the morning.
From Wallington you first follow the busy high street (photo #1) with shops and too many cars. After a while, you turn off London Road (photo #2) and around a pond (photo #3) before entering Beddington Park (photo #4, #5). There is a church right in the middle of it (photo #6). Then after going down a hill (photo #7), the route follows the river Wandle for a while, with good paths (photo #8, #9). Some were a little muddy, but nothing that normal shoes would not be appropriate for. After passing the Wadddon Ponds (photo #10), you cross over a railway and across the busy Roman Way (with good crossing points). After going around a church, it's then alongside the busy Croydon shopping streets (photo #11) to the finish (photo #12).
A great urban route. Would walk again.
