Description
New version of the very direct Twiric Two route which crosses the river Thames by the magnificent Art Deco Twickenham Bridge.
It uses the new footpath which opened this year along the river Crane at Twickenham station, so reducing the amount of road walking overall. There's a choice between steps and lift to access the station/meeting point.
I've improved the road crossing at St Margarets which worried me in Twiric Two. The route now goes past St Margarets station to a safe crossing point.
** Note that the river Crane footpath is closed when there is a Twickenham event day (i.e. a stadium event like rugby or a concert), but the walk-around is easy to find - it's the one used by routes one, two and three! **

11 Feb 2024I walked this on an overcast afternoon, from Twickenham to Richmond, with a game going on at the Twickenham Rugby stadium.
Because of a game, the new path along the river crane was shut (photo #1), but it was easy enough to follow Cole Park Road for a wee bit longer to get into Moormead Park. Then the route zig-zags along through small quiet residential streets (photo #2). Crossing St Margarets Road is best done right in front of the station. Then a few more residential roads (photo #3, #4) to end up on Twickenham Bridge (photo #5, #7) to cross the Thames (photo #6). Then it's a quick dash along the Thames, through Old Palace Place and across Richmond Green to reach the finish. A good route, albeit not the most direct one.

11 Aug 2023I walked from Twickenham to Richmond. I agree with the other reviews. A pleasant walk, especially through the back streets of Richmond. Food shops and toilets at Twickenham Station. The only snag is the planes that pass above every 3 or 4 minutes.

24 Jun 2023Reccied and walked this route (with Strider), Richmond to Twickenham.
It’s an update of Twiric Two made by Philipj8, keeps the same directness, and the useful back alley at St Margarets.
It’s a lovely local walk, the small negatives are: a shortish stretch along the A316 which is a fast busy road; but the pavement is wide; and a lot of steps up to the bridge across the Thames. Otherwise quiet residential roads and parks.
I was excited to try out the newly opened footpath alongside the river Crane at Twickenham, this is exactly the sort of improvement to walking infrastructure we need, it really benefits the route.

24 Jun 2023I walked from Richmond to Twickenham.
This route uses a new path alongside the River Crane leading up to Twickenham Station, adding more pleasant greenery to an already relatively green walk. Quiet roads, riverside walks, parks, commons and alleyways make this a very lovely walk. The only busy road is on Twickenham Bridge, but the pavements are wide, there are views across the Thames and the bridge architecture is interesting, and on this hot day the breeze was welcome.
There are steps up to the bridge so no good for wheels. Although there is a lift to avoid steps next to Twickenham station.
Really attractive walk with lots of interest and greenery. Just pips Twric3 at the post.
