Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

05 Oct 2021The section of this route between Newfield Mains and Rowanhill is far from ideal. Although marked as a road on google maps the long straight section of this is no longer a passable way, it runs through the muiddle of a cow and sheep field and is inclined to be very muddy even in dry weather and impassably muddy in wet weather. Better to continue on from Newfield Mains to East Lodge and Cherryknowe and rejoin the suggested route there.
The section of the route from Colennan to Dundonald is particularly nice and is part of the official Smugglers Trail walk which runs from South Beach through Fullerton Woods and the vilage of Loans before merging with this route.
On this section of the trail you will pass Collenan Reservoir, Kemp Law vitrified hill fort, Dundonald Woods SSSI, and Dondonald Castle which was built in 1371 for King Robert II, grandson of Robert the Bruce.
