Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

05 Dec 2023A couple of things to note. Firstly, I did this walk in early December 2023 after a few snowy days followed by a rainy night so there was a bit of meltwater in the fields and becks. Secondly, I took the walk's title to mean that the GPX file ran from Thornton to Bingley, it doesn't it runs from Bingley to Thornton (I should have looked at the Geography tab) so my review is based on Thornton to Bingley.
Starting off at the junction of Thornton Road & Kipping Lane, It is easy to find the start of West Lane by the Black Horse pub. West Lane continues up to the Back Lane junction, to the left of the house there is the start of the walk through the fields negotiating several stiles, stoops and gates down to Pitty Beck . The bridge across the beck is basic; our route ahead is unsigned unlike those for Egypt and Salt Pie, but It isn't difficult to get to the Long Lane / Allerton Road junction. Across from the junction is Mutton Lane, our way on, which leads via another Back Lane to Bob Lane. This bit of road walking can be avoided by turning right down Allerton Road to an unsigned right of way on the left (just past the signed right of way on the right) which going through the stoop in the wall leads to the start of Bob Lane. After going past the farm buildings on Bob Lane, the track goes a very muddy area but shortly after just becomes the "normal" path / stream for this area after wet weather. You soon reach Wilsden Road near the Ling Bob roundabout and there are crossing islands nearer the roundabout. The walk down Wilsden's Main Street is uneventful passing Lockwood's sandwich shop, various pubs and the Krave deli. Turning off Main Street on to Smithy Lane, you soon cross Wilsden Beck onto Cross Lane. After passing the buildings on Cross Lane and turning right, careful attention to navigation is needed avoid taking the wrong tracks, but eventually a well defined path with wire fencing on either side leads directly to Cottingley Woods. From here it is straight ahead going downhill to reach Shipley Golf Club, where again going straight ahead leads to your first bridge over Harden Beck. At the top of the steps turning right leads down the second bridge over Harden Beck. At the end of the allotment fencing turn left to reach the bridge over the River Aire leading to Myrtle Park and Bingley.
