09 Jun 2023I undertook the route from Highworth into Swindon, and was very pleasantly surprised by the route from Highworth to Kingsdown Lane ( track ), like the previous reviewer, I fell foul of the enormous B & Q distribution warehouse. Upon reaching the B4141 Kingsdown Rd ( near the Crem ) cross the road, and turn RIGHT. This then gets you back on track. Prior to this point, the path ST7, is temporarily closed ( from SU 17350 89163 to SU 17345 88693 ) but apparently there are permissive paths, although I couldn't find them ! Having followed the Swihig route down B4143 Bridge End Rd, you then encounter a flight of 30 steps down to the railway, and then a bridge over the railway, with its 40 steps up, and 40 steps down. If you take the adjacent Stratton Rd, it avoids these obstacles. As a result of the issues encountered, I will upload a Swihig two, which gets successfully around the B n Q warehouse, plus other minor tweaks.

12 Jun 2021A good Slow Way with an impressive amount of off-road paths considering one end is Swindon (about half off-road paths, about half sidewalks/pavements near Swindon). Note there are also several series of steps in the Swindon half of the route. There is one big issue - a new warehouse center has been built just outside of Swindon and the Slow Way route has you walking right directly through it!! I took a long detour around, down Kingsdown Road and Ermin Street, but I think there is a way to go around the warehouse and meet back up with the Slow Way before crossing the motorway. Someone more well-versed in the local area would be able to investigate that. Otherwise, the route is a perfectly good Slow Way!.
