Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

22 May 2024I walked this route from Swallownest. It is a functional route between the centres, but not all pleasant walking. The route leaves Swallownest climbing steadily on the pavement alongside Worksop Road on a wide pavement. After crossing the B6067 Aston Lane the route joins a farm track and then heads north-eastwards along field margins. Crossing Conduit Moor the route is on an undefined right of way across the farmland, before heading on a diverted route alongside the motorway to reach a farm-bridge. Immediately over the motorway, the route turns sharply right down a steep bank to follow a diverted route alongside the motorway. There would be a shorter route here directly to the buildings of Vessey Close farm, but this is not a right of way. Where the route starts to swing away from the motorway there is a walked path straight ahead to join Hardwick Lane. In theory there is a right of way shown on the 1:25000 OS map straight to Vessey Close farm, but the hedge crossing has been blocked and grown over and there is no path on the ground. Instead we turn northwards on Hardwick Lane and then where the tarmac ends at Hardwick Grange follow an unsurfaced track past the buildings. There were inquisitive, noisy dogs here - but no threat. The route continues on a overgrown green lane, marked on the OS map as a cycle route. It is muddy and uneven, but is followed to its junction with Common Road. The route follows this for more than a mile southwards. It is a busy road, but mostly light vehicles, not lorries. The route meets the B6463 to make its way towards Dinnington. Although this is a very busy road, there is a good pavement. After crossing the railway bridge and at the end of the industrial estate the route turns off along the remains of Church Lane, and shortly joins the cycleway/pavement that skirts the housing and the reclaimed site of Dinnington pit tip (Church Lane becoming Athorpe Road) to reach a roundabout. Straight across here, and a short road climbs to the hub at the bus station. This route is a functional way between two points. There is a short length of countryside in the middle, but most of it is on or alongside roads. There are no facilities along the way.
